For Teachers

Lucinda has worked with a number of schools as a consultant, speaker and trainer.  She has a variety of 'off the peg' workshops for teachers but can tailor these to your needs.

Supporting Students with exam anxiety

This workshop will give an overview of anxiety (the bio-psychology); we will then look at what not to do and finally how to support a student struggling with exam anxiety. It is worth noting that students who are having professional support for anxiety often report they don't have the study skills necessary to help reduce anxiety.

Teaching revision strategies to reduce stress

This workshop will focus on the importance of creating manageable revision plans and how to teach and role model a variety of revision techniques, as well as explaining the psychology behind them and why they are effective. The workshop provides a useful space in which to reflect on practices within your school and offers practical advice and discussion for how to embed study and revision skills more at the heart of your teaching and learning.

Positive Wellbeing

10 ways to improve classroom wellbeing•This is a practical workshop looking at how we can use psychological research to improve the wellbeing of everyone in the classroom without adding to your workload. It draws on a wide range of psychological research and considers how this can be translated into classroom practice.

The Teenage brain – Screens, sleep and Study

Understand your audience•Understanding what is going on in the brain of an adolescent is eye-opening and helps you as a teacher to have a more in-depth understanding of their behaviour and some of the perhaps illogical choices they make! This psycho-education focuses on the role of dopamine, neural growth and pruning, the under-developed prefrontal-cortex and also explains why the brains of teenagers are primed for the impact of mobile phone use, staying up late and their obsession with FOMO. Then we consider how we can use this to our advantage.

Nurturing a Growth Mindset in your classroom

Children with a growth mindset put in more effort, choose more challenging tasks, persevere for longer on difficult problems, seek more feedback and see mistakes as learning opportunities. These learning behaviours are the key to successful learning. Therefore, nurturing your child to have a growth mindset is incredibly important and can impact their whole approach to their learning. In this workshop, we will teach you about what it means to have a growth or fixed mindset and offer you practical advice on things you can do to encourage a growth mindset in your child. Nurture a Growth Mindset in your child & watch them flourish. This course is relevant to parents of both primary and secondary school age.

Parent workshops
All schools recognise that to maximise impact of these talks getting parents on board is essential, so that messages at home and in school are consistent. These five parent workshops run alongside the workshops for teachers:

  • The Teenage brain – Screens, Sleep and Study
  • Supporting your child’s revision to reduce stress
  • Supporting your child with exam anxiety
  • Nurturing a Growth Mindset in your child
  • Positive Wellbeing – 10 ways to improve wellbeing in your home.

Student talks and workshops

Sometimes having someone different in to deliver information can be effective. Any of the workshops above can be adapted for students encouraging positive attitudes to study, screens, wellbeing and mental health all underpinned by psycho-education.
